Student Life Communications
Introduction and Background
Operating under the guiding assumptions that (a) one cannot NOT communicate and that (b) failing to plan is planning to fail, the Division of Student Life developed this Strategic Communication Plan. The purpose of the plan is to provide communication operating standards and expectations for the division, particularly for personnel whose duties specifically include communication work.
When done strategically and well, our communication efforts serve to eliminate confusion and ambiguity, foster greater professionalism and efficiency, and positively enhance the overall student experience. To that end, please take time to become familiar with this plan, using it to inform and guide the work in your respective area. This plan is designed to be a living document that evolves as needed, so feel free to offer any insights or feedback to Tom Barnard, Associate Director for Outreach & Engagement, as appropriate.
Communication Goals
As with any strategic plan, there are goals involved. The stated overarching goals of this communication plan are:
-
To achieve appropriate consistency in tone, look, and in messaging across the division
-
To foster greater collaboration and transparency within the division and beyond
-
To create efficiencies and encourage innovation
-
To build a cohesive division identity toward increasing belonging, thriving and success
Each semester the Student Life Communications Collaborative will revisit these overarching goals to develop a collective action plan for the semester and to inform practice within each unit.
